MultiSIM

eSIM is a type of SIM card – an electronic SIM card is simply used instead of a physical plastic SIM card. MultiSIM is a service that allows you to use all your mobile services (calls, messages) on your smartwatch or other device with the same number as on your phone. You can use the MultiSIM service with an eSIM (e.g. in a smartwatch) or with a plastic SIM card (e.g. in another phone).

To order the service, the smartphone, i.e., the main device, must have a Telia mobile plan with call service, and the orderer must have the corresponding right or authorisation to join MultiSIM. If there is no corresponding authorisation, but you wish to join the service, you can order the service via Private Invoice, or contact the owner of your number and ask for a temporary authorisation to order the service.

In the self-service, the authorised person can also order the service to another number (on their consolidated invoice).

You can terminate your MultiSIM service in the Telia self-service by selecting your number from the ‘Mobile’ page, then selecting ‘Manage additional services’, and from there ‘Additional mobile services’ > ‘MultiSIM’.

The Telia MultiSIM service currently works with iPhone 6S and above, as well as with Samsung smartphones with the software version of Android 6.0 or above and 1.5 GB of RAM.

NB! Older iPhones (iPhone 7 and older) are not compatible with newer Apple Watches (Apple Watch 5 and later) and also do not support the latest versions of watchOS and iOS. In addition, pairing an older Watch with your iPhone and subscribing to the MultiSIM service may fail after updating your iOS version. When joining the MultiSIM service in the self-service, the main device can be any phone that works in the Telia Eesti mobile network. As the extra device, in addition to a phone, you can choose any other device (e.g., a smartwatch, tablet computer) that is designed to make and receive calls, send and receive messages, and that requires the use of a main number. Only one extra device can be connected to the MultiSIM service.

If your bank supports it, it is possible to pay with your Apple Watch using Apple Pay, and with a Samsung smartwatch of the Galaxy Watch4 series or newer using Google Pay

The MultiSIM service also works abroad if the roaming service is open on the main number.

For roaming to function abroad, the following conditions must be met:

NB: It is not possible connect to the MultiSIM service with Apple Watch while on an external network.

With Samsung watches, you can use the call service, text messages and data services abroad. At that, you should take into account that in the case of calls, some countries display the main number when calling out, while some countries display the additional number when calling out, depending on the network interface technology. For messages, the main number is displayed when sending an SMS, and the additional number when sending an MMS.

To order the service, the smartphone, i.e., the main device, must have a Telia mobile plan with call service, and the orderer must have the corresponding right or authorisation to join MultiSIM. If you are interested in subscribing to the service but lack the necessary authorisation, you can subscribe via Private Invoice or contact the number holder and request temporary authorisation to subscribe.

If you want to use the existing MultiSIM service on a new Apple or Samsung watch, you need to pair the new watch with your phone and initiate joining the mobile plan. In the course of the joining process, you will be offered the opportunity to transfer the MultiSIM service from the old watch to the new one. After the MultiSIM service has started working on the new watch, you can delete the eSIM from the old watch.

If you use the MultiSIM service with eSIM on another device, when you change the device, the MultiSIM service must be terminated and re-ordered on the new device. If you are using a physical SIM card, just move it from one device to another.

If you change phone and want to use your existing smartwatch with your new phone, you will need to unpair the watch from your former phone and pair it with your new phone. When you disconnect the watch from your former phone, you must choose to keep eSIM. In this case, you can continue to use the MultiSIM service as soon as you have paired your watch with your new phone.

If you deleted eSIM from your watch, go back to the Watch app on your Apple phone or the Wearable app on your Samsung phone, start joining the service, and restore eSIM. You can find the instructions for joining MultiSIM in the Help and instructions section.

If you have a problem with your MultiSIM service when you change phones, the easiest way is to terminate your MultiSIM service and re-subscribe.

This is a change of ownership in the view of the mobile contract and in this case the MultiSIM service will be terminated. The MultiSIM service will need to be re-subscribed under the new owner.

To order the service on an Apple or Samsung watch, you must have authorisation or permission of the employer for the MultiSIM monthly fee to be displayed on the company’s account. If you do not have the authorisation or permission from your employer, you can pay for the MultiSIM service yourself if you first join the Private Invoice service.

To order the service in the self-service, you must also have authorisation. A person authorised by the company can also order the service in the self-service to another number in the name of the company. If you do not have authorisation, you can pay for the MultiSIM service yourself by first joining the Private Invoice service and choosing a private person to represent you when joining MultiSIM.

The watch uses the number of the smartphone. Everything that is allowed with the main number is also allowed with the watch. The watch shares the voice minutes, text messages, and Internet data in the mobile plan of the main number. If the smartphone does not include Internet in the plan, then the smartwatch will not have it either.

When you join the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Wearable app, you can use both Mobile-ID and Smart-ID to identify yourself. We recommend using Mobile-ID or authentication via banks, as authentication via Smart-ID may not work in some exceptional cases (in particular for Apple). When using Smart-ID, you should also remember that its operation has a peculiarity: the menu for joining the service may close in the meantime, which is why you may need to return to it.

When joining self-service, in addition to the previously described options, you can also use your ID-card for identification.

If the number is not in your name, you require an authorisation to order the service. To obtain it, contact the owner of the number. In the self-service, the authorised person can also order the service to another number (on their consolidated invoice).

If your phone number belongs to a company and you want to register the MultiSIM service to the company invoice, you need the authorisation of the owner of the number, or the owner of the number must allow ordering the MultiSIM service on behalf of the company. For this, an authorised representative of the company must contact Telia.

If you wish, you can also conclude the MultiSIM service as a private person; in this case, no authorisation is required. For this, you need to join the Private Invoice service and formalise the MultiSIM service monthly fee to the Private Invoice.

If you have subscribed to the MultiSIM service from the self-service, SMS messages sent to the main number will also be copied to your device with MultiSIM. This only applies to SMS messages; MMS messages are not copied to your device with MultiSIM.

If you use the MultiSIM service on your Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Wear, SMS and MMS messages sent to your phone will be forwarded to your watch using Bluetooth or over the internet via an Apple/Samsung account.

These apps (e.g., parking) and services (e.g., buying extra capacity, purchasing roaming plans, etc.) based on user number recognition, act like a main number on a MultiSIM extra device. That is, all activated services are ordered to the main number and are reflected on the invoice of the main number.

During roaming, when dialling out of an additional MultiSIM number, a situation may arise where the MultiSIM technical number is shown. This can happen if Telia does not have a CAMEL or VoLTE roaming agreement with the external network.

Yes, in this case, you need to join the MultiSIM service in the self-service. Upon joining, a QR code will be created that can be used to set up an eSIM on a Samsung watch. To this end, you need to download the Galaxy Wearable app to the phone and go through the MultiSIM activation process, during which you should select ‘I have a QR code or activation code’.

By joining the MultiSIM service in the self-service, you will be able to use the service on any additional device intended for call service (e.g., keypad phone, tablet, car stereo, watch from another manufacturer, or other device) with both the physical SIM and the eSIM. In the case of a physical SIM, the SIM card must be ordered from the e-store in advance. Only one additional device can be connected to the MultiSIM service.

Both the smartwatch and the smartphone should have the latest version of the operating system at the time of subscription. As of September 2023, this is iOS 17 for iPhone (supported by iPhone Xs, Xr, and later phones) and watchOS 10 for Apple Watch (supported by Watch 4 and later).

If you have an iPhone 6s, 7, 8, or X and have already used the MultiSIM service with it, you can continue to use the MultiSIM service. You can also subscribe to the MultiSIM service on these phones (which have an older system than iOS 17) if the software version of the Apple Watch is older than watchOS 9, but in this case, the Apple Watch will not work when roaming.

There are 2 versions of Apple smartwatches with Cellular (i.e., eSIM) support: US/Canada and Global (i.e., the rest of the world). Only the Global version works in our region.

To join the service, you first need to pair your iPhone and eSIM-enabled Apple Watch via Bluetooth. To subscribe to the service, open the ‘Mobile data’ menu item in the Watch app on your iPhone and, if subscription to the service is allowed, select ‘Set up new data plan’. A website will open, where you will need to authenticate yourself and read and agree to the terms and conditions before joining the service. The subscription takes approximately 5 minutes to activate. After successful activation, a relevant notification will be sent to your iPhone.

There are both GPS-enabled and eSIM-enabled Apple Watches. The round button (called the Digital Crown) of eSIM- or Cellular versions has a red circle. If the button does not have a red circle, then it is a GPS-enabled watch that cannot take advantage of the MultiSIM service.

You can use the MultiSIM service with all Apple Watch models for the European region, starting with Apple Watch 3. Make sure that both your phone and Watch have the latest software available.

NB! Older Apple Watches (Watch 3 and 4) are not compatible with newer iPhones (starting with iPhone 8), and also do not support the latest versions of watchOS and iOS. Therefore, you may no longer be able to pair the older Watch or subscribe to the MultiSIM service after updating the iOS version on your iPhone.

This is not possible. The Apple Watch Set Up for a Family Member function is not supported on Telia Eesti network.

All functions and services function correctly on watches purchased in the Baltic region. This cannot be guaranteed in the case of devices purchased from other regions
