The Telia Find service is open to contractual EMT customers and Simpel and Super calling card customers. A trial period has been established for the service until December 31, 2015, and during that period no fees shall be applied to the service. Only the package based Internet fee shall be applied.

Telia Find cell phone application displays the location of a phone that can be positioned within of 500 meters of its actual location, but not its exact position. The degree of accuracy of the positioning depends to a great extent on the technical properties of the cell phone being positioned and the mobile telephony network.

Accuracy depending on mobile telephony networks and technology:

  • GSM – in rural areas the accuracy of the location can be determined within a few kilometers; 500 meters in a city
  • 3G – within a city, the location can be determined with a positioning accuracy of up to 300 meters
  • Phones with GPS support and A-GPS functionality – the location can be determined with a positioning accuracy of up to 20 meters
  • Telia Find app – the location of phones can be viewed with a positioning accuracy of up to 20 meters

The Telia Find application now makes it possible to determine the location of your contacts in a few seconds based on Any Time Interrogation (ATI), although in such cases the positioning is the least precise, with the accuracy of up to 5 kilometers.

The Telia Find service also displays the last known location of the phone being positioned before it moved out of the coverage area. In this case, the location is displayed on the map as a shaded symbol, and includes the time when the phone was at the last known position.

The location of contacts is marked in two colors based on accuracy:

  • Green – the location of the phone being positioned has been determined with a positioning accuracy of 500 meters
  • Red – the location of the phone being positioned has been found with a positioning accuracy of 500 meters

Responding to a positioning request

If the person being positioned is not able to use the Telia Find mobile application:

If the person being positioned does not have the Telia Find app, the positioning request will be sent to them via SMS.
The Telia Find service can send the person being positioned a notice regarding the positioning request via SMS 1711: Will you allow user 372xxxxxx to determine your position? The person being positioned will send the following SMS – “LUBA 372xxxxxx" – from their phone to the short number 1711.

If the person being positioned wishes, at their own initiative, to allow the Telia Find service to provide the positioner with permission to determine their position: The person being positioned 3725xxxxxxx shall send the following SMS – “LUBA 3725yyyyyyyyy" – from their own phone to the short number 1711
After this, the positioner will see the contact being positioned in their Telia Find contact list. By default, an SMS notification to the person being positioned will not be added.

Positsioneeritav soovib Telia Find teenusest keelata enda positsioneerimise positsioneerijalt:
The person being positioned 3725xxxxxxx shall send the following SMS – “KEELA 3725yyyyyyyy" – from their own phone to the short number 1711.
The positioner will see the person being positioned in their own Telia Find contact list, but without the right to position them.

Until December 31, 2016, there will be no separate fee for EMT Find. If using the service requires the EMT Find mobile application to use mobile Internet, the package based data communication fee will apply.

What are the changes to current users of the Positioning Service?

  • All positioning rights will be transferred to the Telia Find service, including all contacts being positioned.
  • After that, when you open the Telia Find map, you will immediately see a view of the approximate locations of positioned contacts, and a corresponding SMS notification will not be sent to them. A notification will be sent if you wish to know their more exact location and the person being positioned has ordered an SMS notification on when they are being positioned.
  • You as a current user of the service must review the positioning settings and rights linked to your cell phone number before August 12, 2014 in the Telia self-service..
  • As of August 12, 2014, it will no longer be possible to manage your list of contacts (change settings, add or delete contacts) in the Telia self-service. You can do this in the EMT Find mobile application or using the short message service SMS 1711. Specific instructions will be added to the Telia homepage on August 12, 2014.
  • Starting from August 12, 2014, Telia customers will not be able to position contractual Diil clients.

How do you make sure that I could not be positioned by anyone who wants to do so at any time?

In case of each positioning request we always check whether the person being positioned has given permission to the positioner to position them. Permission to position can be granted via the Telia Find mobile application and SMS 1711.

How can I identify the locations of cell phones in my name?

In case of a private customer, the owner of the number can always position the location of the GSM number in their name in the Telia self-service, even if the user of the number has not granted the permission. To do so, after entering the self-service, select your own private person consolidated bill and number that you want to position. The location of the selected number will then be displayed in the Telia Find service.

Business customers do not have this option available to them in the Telia Find service, but this can be done using the Monitor service.

Can Diil numbers be positioned via the Telia Find service?

The positioning service is not open to Diil, and therefore it is not possible to position the contractual or calling card customers of Diil.

Why has the cell phone number of a person being positioned disappeared from my contact list?

If the person being positioned has changed their cell phone number, transferred ownership or operators, then the number will be automatically deleted from all contact lists in the Telia Find service.

If I cannot use the Telia Find app, how can I, if necessary, permit/prohibit the positioning of my number?

You can use the service SMS 1711 to grant or deny permission for positioning via messages. For more information see the instructions.

Can I use the Telia Find web version through the EMT self-service with my cell phone's browser?

Yes, you can use the Telia Find service in the EMT self-service via a browser on your smartphone.

Can the Telia Find service be used by the customers of other operators?

The Telia Find service cannot be used by the customers of other operators.

Can I position contacts roaming abroad using the Telia Find service?

The Telia Find mobile application only displays the position of roaming numbers when the phone of the person being positioned has downloaded the Telia Find service and is using data communication.

Positioning rights for private customers
As a private customer, the owner of the number can always position the location of a cell phone number in their name in the Telia self-service, even if the user of the number has not granted the permission. To do so, enter the self-service, select your own private person consolidated bill and the number that you want to position. The location of the selected number will then be displayed in the Telia Find service.

If the user of the cell phone number and the owner are not the same person, then the user can also link the number to their own personal identification code in the self-service.

Positioning rights for business customers
The user of the number must first link their mobile phone number to their personal identification code in the Telia self-service. After that they can start using the positioning service.

The owner or administrator of a business customer does not have the right to determine the position of all cell phone numbers under all consolidated bills, without requesting permission.

Positioning rights for calling cards
Telia calling cards Simpel, Pop and Super have access to the full functionality of the Telia Find service.

Pop and Super calling card users can use the Telia Find service in the Telia self-service, if they have linked their calling card number to their own personal identification code.
