You can now call over the 4G (LTE) network and enjoy even better voice quality. Calls over 4G network are known as VoLTE calls.

  • 3 times faster initiation of calls when calling to another VoLTE number.
  • Join the service automatically and free of charge.
  • 4G data speed is not affected by VoLTE calls.

All users who have VoLTE supported telephones with the latest manufacturer’s software can make VoLTE calls; the range of devices is constantly growing. Another prerequisite for using VoLTE calls is the plan with 4G internet.

4G calls, also known as VoLTE (Voice over LTE), uses the 4G (LTE) network instead of 2G or 3G network for transmitting voice calls by transforming voice to data. If the 4G signal is not strong enough or if you are outside the 4G coverage, the call will be transferred to 2G or 3G network without any delay.

Faster call connection and better voice quality

If you use a VoLTE-capable phone that does not have VoLTE service activated, your phone will use 3G or 2G network and call initiation will take 5-7 seconds. With VoLTE, your phone will be able to connect almost immediately, thereby saving phone's battery and your time. VoLTE also enables much better voice quality.

Additionally, you will be able to use 4G internet during the call - for example, set up a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and share your phone's data connection. The new technology also enables various future services, like call recording, intelligent caller ID, status, instant messaging, etc.

VoLTE calls cost as much as regular calls. Thus, there will be no additional charges for using the VoLTE service.

To use VoLTE, you will need a telephone that supports 4G calls or VoLTE supported telephone, which has the latest manufacturer’s software. The service will be activated automatically, you will also receive an SMS notification about the activation of the service. There is no need for a separate app to use the service.

VoLTE works only on 4G-capable smartphones.

The following roaming and some other services are affected by 4G/VoLTE calls:

Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 EDGE and Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL: once you have activated VoLTE, call forwarding will be conducted both in your home network and in the case of roaming. If you have activated the VoLTE service, but are using a phone that does not support this service, you need to call the following number to activate direct call forwarding: 6119925 (Estonian menu) or 6119926 (Russian menu). Forwarding will not be possible on a phone that does not support 4G calls.

With VoLTE you will always hear knocking when you receive another call during an active call. However, with VoLTE the caller will not receive a notification that you're busy with another call.

VoLTE service uses a new voicemail service with a new voicemail greeting. Your old voicemail messages will be archived and can be accessed by calling 5096006. To call voicemail from abroad, dial 5096005.

Hallo internet calls do not work over VoLTE. If you are an active internet calls user, we recommend not activating the VoLTE service.

Service restrictions can be set by your carrier or yourself. Restrictions set by the carrier apply both in your home network and in roaming. With VoLTE service, restrictions set by you do not apply in roaming.

To view restrictions that can bet set on voice services, click here.

Additionally, it is not possible to activate restrictions on a phone that does not support VoLTE calls.

  • Restriction on outgoing calls (code 33)
  • International call barring (country of location allowed, code 331)
  • International call barring abroad (country of location + Estonia allowed, code 332)

If you use TwinSIM together with VoLTE and outgoing calls are restricted for the main number (e.g. with the Balance Limit service), make sure your calls are forwarded to the main number in order to receive calls.

If VoLTE and TwinNumber are used together, TwinNumber's fax and data call services do not work.

Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 EDGE phones: The following software versions support VoLTE: G930FXXU1DQB7 / G930FSEB1DQB2 / G930FXXU1DQB3 ja G935FXXU1DQB7 / G935FSEB1DQB2 / G935FXXU1DQB3

How to check which software version you have: Settings – About device – Software info – Baseband version.

If the software of your phone supports the VoLTE service and the service has been activated, a respective VoLTE icon will appear on your screen. The 4G network will remain in use during the call.

Microsoft Lumia phones: Go to the phone's menu and check Settings > Regular and radio network > Mobile service and SIM-card > SIM-card settings > Advanced 4G LTE services – IMS registration.

Your phone supports VoLTE if you can find those menu selections. When you have ordered the VoLTE service, then Advanced 4G LTE services – IMS registration have to be switched on. After that the same page should display IMS status as registered. If you have ordered the VoLTE service and activated it on your phone, but the IMS status remains unregistered, then you should restart your phone and check it again.
